Three days ago the world wide web became obsessed with the story trailer for the video game ‘Dead Island.’ In a matter of hours the video, which stylishly glimpsed the story of just one family’s vacation to a zombie-infested exotic resort, went viral, racking up millions of views in the process. In less than 72 hours after the trailer hit, manufacturer Sean Daniel (‘The Mummy,’ ‘Dazed and Confused,’ ‘The Wolfman’) began option discussions with the game’s publisher, Strong Silver. Yesterday those discussions closed for an undisclosed amount of money going to Deep Silver and game owner Techland for the film rights on the movie. No time frame creation or writing/directing talent have been introduced thus far, but with a producer like Sean Daniel on board, it is likely this isn’t just a circumstance of a studio calling dibs with a hot topic and then resting idly by while the frenzy correctly goes cold.

The game * which isn’t even concerning the particular family in the movie trailer – isn’t expected to hit until this coming holiday season, however don’t be surprised if that release eye-port slips a bit in order to increase awareness of both the film as well as the game.
