MGM Reignites Upcoming Remakes: ‘Mr. Mom,’ ‘RoboCop,Ha ‘Poltergeist’ and More
Money issues might stall things for a short while, but MGM is ready to get back to business. James Bond is barrelling ahead, and after this the studio is ready to proceed with a number of remakes and sequels.
According to Selection, the studio has a list of top priority projects in the works, 5 films being: a machine of ‘RoboCop’ — which was one of the studio’s initial casualties when the financial troubles arose, a reboot of the Michael Keaton-starring ‘Mr. Mom,’ any remake of ‘The Idolmaker’ — the only amaze being that this one failed to come sooner in our ‘American Idol’ globe — and the fourth ‘Poltergeist,’ delayed in 2009.
Now you might declare that’s only four…
That’s because there is a lone new feature inside the bunch — a ‘Hercules’ project John p Berg is producing. Though, if you wish to be cinematic sticklers, the story continues to be tackled in a number of ways over the years, so it isn’t all that clean.
If you need a breath of refreshing, unique air in this reprise news, remember that MGM is co-financing ‘Hansel and also Gretel: Witch Hunters’ with Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. So there’s that.
But these days, does it matter? Every studio is throwing a billion remakes in mid-air and seeing which ones fly. We can’t help but ponder if Hollywood’s just testing your limits of our tolerance. With a lot of of the understandable or a little surprising remakes in the heap, may the studios now turn to the unfathomable remakes? They already have, really, once you think of news like John Zemeckis’ hope to remake ‘The Wizard associated with Oz.’
Nothing’s sacred in relation to milking pre-existing fanbases. Which of these do you actually want to see?
