Gang of Four Live on KCRW
From KCRW DJ Eric J Lawrence:
While KCRW has a long-standing reputation for discovering new music, some of my favorite moments at the place have been when Jason and also Ariana bring in a truly legendary as well as veteran band to perform survive Morning Becomes Eclectic.
This also morning’s set from post-punk progenitors Gang of four years old certainly qualified.
After keeping the pleasure of introducing the group at their Music Field show the night before, We knew a little of what to expect they’d bring for their MBE session: angular, muscular, smart funk, matched with hectoring, emphatic words caying a serious message behind them.
It absolutely was a treat to see the band enjoy the release of their first record in over 15 years along with killer renditions of tracks via said album, as well as a number of gems from their catalog permanently measure (“We Live As We Aspiration, Alone” from 1982’s “Songs of the Free” is a personalized favorite, taking its title from a line from Frederick Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness.”)
In a week the location where the world freaks out over the release of a new Radiohead album, it is nice to recognize a wedding ring that has been recording for nearly two times as long and who can truly claim a laundry-list of organizations that have followed directly inside their footsteps.
